Mobile programming is a heavy course and in many occasions takes on a multi-disciplinary approach. We tend to look at things outside of engineering and explore the human side of life (or non-life) by designing solutions to problems that are recurrent on Earth.
For example, take a look at the whole idea behind communication. Communication is a relational activity; the folks involved in communication use it say things to each other, convey hidden messages/meanings of messages -- such as two love birds -- a teacher to a student will often want his or her student to learn a thing or two about life. Obviously, geeks like you and I have helped make things even easier. The telephone, mobile phone, the Internet... all these facilitate the act of communication. This makes our world, in many cases, a better place.

CASE STUDY
Wednesday10th March 2010
Problem Suggestions
- Market Prices
- Tourism [happening places / hotels]
- Possible University Entry Cut-Off points
Okay let me start by saying we had more ideas but these three were the ones which got the full support from the members by considering the feasibility and content of the topic. The others will be available for listing or more information if anyone is interested.
Out of the three highly appreciated topics we decided to work with the third one, Possible University Entry Cut-Off points.
A bit more details on the topics
Market Prices:
The idea behind this was to collect prices of an item(s) more specifically agriculture products from different areas and analysis the data. The analysis will include the idea of comparing the various prices and coming up with a generally acceptable price after careful considerations of all main factors. Then, the calculated result is be availed to users of the service on request.
Tourism [happening places / hotels]
So the idea behind this one was to avail as much information as possible to tourist, both internal and external, or any other interested party. This one came with 2 angles; the first one being availing information on places like tourist shops or tourist attraction on request. The second angle was that we let the owners of hotels [and similar businesses] to send their prices and available rooms/services periodically and an interested individual could query them.
University Entry Cut-Off points
The idea behind this was that to help students, parents/guardians or an interested party to see/gauge their position and possibility of joining a given course. This is to be achieved in way that students send their MOCK results (& and other relevant results) and the system analyzes the information provided by comparing the entries and returns to the user an approx result to their “future”. That is whether they will be eligible for the course in mind, thus assisting in selection of course.
…... So with that we begun on the project by a simple sketch of the general structure of the implementation as shown in the image file attached ...
MML - Architecture.pdf
we then quickly identified the stakeholders as;
- A-Level Students
- Parents / guardians /sponsors
- Coders
- Service providers
- any other organisation
the type of data that is required or will be handled by the project were also identified as follows;
- Mock Results
- O-Level Results
- Possible Cut-Off Points
- Best Schools
after the above mentioned activity, the case study was scheduled for Friday 12th March 2010.
